Our goal is to make the Rappahannock Independent Film Festival accessible to as many people as possible, and one of the ways we do that is by keeping ticket prices low. In return, we rely heavily on generous donations from our sponsors and the countless hours contributed by our volunteers. Despite all of this support, our expenses still outweigh our income.
If you would like to support RIFF, and ensure that it continues in the years to come, we’d like to encourage you to purchase a ticket to the Fundraiser Brunch. This event will be an unique opportunity to meet the filmmakers and festival organizers, while supporting the festival financially at the same time. Visit the tickets page to purchase a ticket to the brunch, or better yet, pick up an All Access pass and enjoy the whole festival.
Thank you in advance for your support!

“Without Jerome’s information and help, I’d never have gotten a studio distribution deal for my small-budgeted no ‘name’ feature. Not in a million years.”
– Vince Rocca, Producer, “Kisses & Caroms” (Released by Warner Bros.)
“I’ve been a working actor for over twenty-five years and have working relationships with many mainstream Distributors. When it was time to distribute my first feature film, I thought I knew it all. Jerome not only opened my eyes, but opened doors and on February 19th, 2008, my vampire movie “Revamped” got released on DVD nationwide. Is Jerome’s Seminar worth it? You can’t even put a price tag on the knowledge and connections that you’ll get from his Seminar.”
– Jeff Rector, Writer/Director/Producer, “Revamped”
Jerome Courshonis an award-winning Producer/Writer, whose critically acclaimed first movie, God, Sex & Apple Pie, was released by Warner Bros. He has been profiled in numerous publications including a feature story in the Los Angeles Times, has been interviewed on iFilm.com and Film Threat, and has written articles on film distribution for MovieMaker Magazine, Indie Slate Magazine, and Film Festival Today among others. He began teaching this distribution seminar with the Learning Annex in 2006.
There is a popular technique in cinema called “rotoscoping”. It’s when live-action footage is traced over by animators to create a hyper-realistic look. It has been made popular in recent years by director Richard Linklater and his 2006 film A Scanner Darkly. Variations can be seen in Charles Schwab commercials and the opening sequence of Juno. While it’s popularity is fairly recent, film buffs know that Linklater is credited with creating the first feature-length rotoscoped film with his production of Waking Life back in 2001. However, what most people don’t know is that Max Fleisher invented the technique in the early 1900’s.
He used rotoscoping extensively in his 1939 animated version of Gulliver’s Travels. The film was the tenth feature-length animated film ever released and the first to come from an American studio other than Disney. Rumor has it, after viewing the film, Walt Disney remarked, “We can do better than that with our second-string animators.”

The Rappahannock Independent Film Festival and Ukrop’s/First Market Bank will host a free showing of Gulliver’s Travels on Friday, September 19 at 7pm in Market Square (behind the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center, 907 Princess Anne St, Fredericksburg, VA). Come out and join us as we re-visit this animated classic with family and friends.
Anyone who would like to volunteer for the 2008 Rappahannock Independent Film Festival should make plans to attend one of two introductory meetings. The meetings will be held Wednesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 19 at 7pm at the Third Floor (810 Caroline St). If you are unable to attend either of these meetings and are interested in volunteering, send an email to

On June 18, we will begin notifying filmmakers if their submissions have been selected for screening at the festival. Notification will be a gradual process, so if you do not hear from us right away, do not panic. We plan to notify all filmmakers by August 25. Please do not request the status of your film before that time.
Tickets for the 2008 festival go on sale to the general public on July 18. Take a sneak peek at the tickets page today!
